Be careful with non-stick utensils! (ቂጡ የማይዝ መጥበሻ እና ድስት)

DO NOT USE THEM BEFORE READING THIS

I say this because since 2000, more than 3,600 people have reported getting a diseased now called, "Teflon flu." Teflon flu is caused by overheating non-stick pans coated with polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE). PFAS chemicals, used in non-stick cookware, are linked to serious health problems, including some cancers.

When these pans are heated to high temperatures, they release fumes that can cause chest tightness, coughing, trouble breathing, and headaches. In 2023 alone, over 265 suspected cases were reported in the USA. The problem is that manufacturers don’t have to list PFAS on labels, so consumers can't tell if their cookware contains these chemicals.

Reading about these dangers confirmed what I learned from the movie "Dark Waters" (2019).

If you are looking a safer alternative, use utensils made from earthenware (e.g. የሸክላ ድስት), stainless steel, or cast iron. Stay safe and choose your cookware wisely! www.ethiomedicine.com
