Please do NOT drink these drinks: Risks of Sugar Substitutes

Many people believe that it's better to avoid sugary drinks and opt for zero-sugar or diet drinks instead.  But recent studies show that some sugar substitutes might be harmful to the heart.

A recent study found that people with high levels of xylitol (a type of sweetener) in their blood were more likely to have heart attacks, strokes, or even die.

This research included over 3,000 people in the US and Europe over 3 years, showing that consuming a lot of xylitol, which is found in many processed foods, could come with major health risk.

Erythritol, another common sweetener, has also been linked to blood clots, which can cause heart attacks and strokes.

These findings suggest that sugar substitutes might not be as safe as we once thought, especially for people with health issues like obesity or diabetes.

Other sweeteners like sucralose (Splenda) and saccharin (Sweet'N Low) can also cause problems by upsetting the balance of good bacteria in the gut, leading to inflammation and other health concerns.

Critiques argued that sweeteners have been considered safe by government agencies for decades and suggested the study's findings may not apply to the general population, especially those without existing heart risks.
